The Process
"How do I get started?"
The first step is to review the topic of ecosystems, which we have been learning about in class. To do this, look at the resources on the class Moodle page. Here, there are videos and websites to help you learn about this topic. This information will help you decide your opinion and connect it to what we have learned in science class.
Next, you will be researching the topic of genetically modified apples through online sources. Click on the button below this paragraph, which will take you to your first source. While reading at first, keep an open mind and record the advantages and disadvantages of GMO apples in order to help you formulate your opinion and to use as a reference when supporting your thoughts.

After reading the first resource, watch the video on GMO apples below. This discusses FDA approval and more aspects of the Arctic apples. While watching, continue recording the advantages and disadvantages.
Now that you have educated yourself on this topic, it is time to form your opinion. What do you think? Are you in support of Arctic apples, or do you disapprove of them? Why or why not?
Once you decide your stance on the issue, you will convey this to Okanagan Specialty Fruits! Write a formal letter to the company in a minimum of one page. You most include a short introduction, at least two supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. In your two supporting paragraphs, you must include at least three pieces of evidence for or against Arctic apples (depending on your stance) to support your opinion. Make sure you connect your ideas to ecosystems at some point in your letter.
Lastly, submit your notes on the advantages and disadvantages of GMO apples and your letter to Moodle.
